Doctoral Scholarship in Sociology: Student Mental Health, Academic Performance, and Social Inequality University of Antwerp in Belgium

The University of Antwerp invites applications for a full-time doctoral scholarship in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences. This position offers the opportunity to conduct pioneering research on the interplay between student mental health, academic performance, and social inequalities throughout the university experience. The project’s innovative approach includes launching a longitudinal student panel, combining repeated survey data with administrative records to provide a comprehensive understanding beyond cross-sectional studies.

As a doctoral researcher, you will actively prepare and defend a PhD thesis in sociology, publish scientific articles related to the research, and contribute to teaching and research support tasks within the department. The position is ideal for candidates with a strong background in advanced quantitative research methods and a keen interest in higher education, social inequality, and student well-being.

Applicants must hold or be completing a Master’s degree in Social Sciences (e.g., Sociology, Psychology, Educational Sciences) by September 2026. Excellent academic results, proficiency in Dutch and English, strong writing skills, and organizational abilities are required. The scholarship is initially awarded for one year and is renewable for up to three additional years following positive evaluation.
