About this position
Applications are open for 14 fully funded PhD positions in the CerebroMachinesTrain Doctoral Network (CMT-DN), hosted by the University of Galway and partner institutions across Europe.
This interdisciplinary doctoral network sits at the intersection of biomedical engineering, biomaterials, biology, neuroscience, materials science, and medical science. The research aims to advance next-generation solutions for cerebrovascular diseases through tiny machines, brain organoid-on-chip models, organ-on-chip technologies, and non-animal microphysiological systems.
Selected doctoral candidates will work on topics such as fabrication and characterisation of brain-compatible tiny machines for targeted drug delivery, development of vascularised brain organoid platforms, investigation of disease mechanisms, and application of microphysiological systems to accelerate therapeutic development.
The positions are full-time for 36 months and are expected to start around September 2026. Funding is provided through Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under Horizon Europe and includes a competitive salary with living allowance, mobility allowance, and possible family allowance. The programme also offers international and intersectoral training, workshops, summer schools, conferences, secondments, and enrolment in a PhD programme at a participating institution.
Eligibility highlights include a relevant Master’s degree, no prior PhD enrolment or award, compliance with the MSCA mobility rule, strong academic performance, laboratory experience, and proof of English proficiency (minimum IELTS 6.5 or equivalent).
The application deadline is 20 May 2026 at 17:00 Irish Time. Interested candidates should apply via the official CMT-DN website and review the individual project descriptions before submitting.
