About this position

The Materials Science Institute of Seville (ICMS) at the University of Seville is offering two fully funded PhD positions as part of the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) project CLEVER-FUEL. This project focuses on the development of multifunctional catalysts and structured reactors for advanced bio-oil production processes, aiming to contribute to sustainable energy solutions and innovative materials research.

Successful candidates will join a dynamic research team and participate in the synthesis and characterization of multifunctional catalysts, employ operando techniques, and conduct catalytic tests in semiautomatic reactors. The PhD students will also engage in project meetings, contribute to technical and research reports, and participate in the Science and Technology of New Materials PhD program at the University of Seville.

The positions are based at the Materials Science Institute of Seville, a leading research center in Spain, and are funded through the ERC under the Horizon Europe programme. The funding covers a full stipend and research expenses for the duration of the PhD.

Applicants should possess a Master's degree or equivalent in Chemistry (with a focus on heterogeneous catalysis or inorganic chemistry), Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering. A good level of English is required, and prior experience in catalyst synthesis, characterization, or reactor operation is advantageous but not essential.

The application deadline is April 20, 2026. Interested candidates should send their CV, academic transcripts, and a cover letter to Dr. Eduardo Ruiz-López ([email protected]). For more information about the research group, visit the group website or consult the official position posting.

This is an excellent opportunity to pursue doctoral research in a cutting-edge field with strong support and international collaboration.
