About this position

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) invites applications for the 2025 EIPOD-LinC Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellowships, a prestigious international program co-funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND. This initiative supports 19 fully funded, three-year postdoctoral positions for researchers passionate about interdisciplinary science and career development across academia, industry, and beyond.

Fellows will design and execute their own research projects under the overarching theme of 'Exploring Life In Context.' Projects should align with one of four EMBL research areas: understanding molecular mechanisms, promoting human health, preserving planetary ecosystems, or capitalizing on artificial intelligence and theory. Each project involves collaboration between an EMBL host group and a partner lab in an EMBL member, prospect, or associate member state, fostering international and cross-sectoral research.

EMBL is Europe’s flagship life sciences laboratory, with over 1800 staff across six sites in Heidelberg (HQ), Barcelona, Hinxton (near Cambridge), Hamburg, Grenoble, and Rome. The institution is renowned for its commitment to curiosity-driven research, technology transfer, and providing access to advanced scientific infrastructure. EMBL values diversity, inclusion, and family-friendly policies, offering a supportive environment for researchers from all backgrounds, including those underrepresented in science, researchers at risk, and applicants with disabilities.

Fellows receive competitive salaries (ranging from 3,291.23 to 4,118.45 EUR per month depending on location), exemption from national taxes, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, pension contributions, family allowances, flexible working arrangements, and extensive training opportunities. The working language is English.

Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent by the application deadline (February 2, 2026), with up to eight years of postdoctoral research experience. Applicants should demonstrate strong research potential, independence, collaboration skills, and fluency in English. EMBL encourages candidates to contact potential host groups before applying to discuss project ideas and future plans.

Applications open November 28, 2025 and close February 2, 2026. Top candidates will be interviewed in April 2026, with fellowships starting between May 1 and August 30, 2026. For full details, application templates, and submission instructions, visit the EIPOD-LinC website. For inquiries, contact the EIPOD team at [email protected].
