About this position

3 Postdoc positions in Collective Action, Democracy, and Societal Transitions at Erasmus University Rotterdam (Rotterdam School of Management, SEICA research group).

The ECCO project (Empowering Citizen COllectives in societal transitions) is recruiting three postdoctoral researchers to form a collaborative leadership team. Rather than working on a single narrow task, the postdocs will help co-manage the scientific and organisational development of a large interdisciplinary programme focused on citizen collectives, collective action, commons, democratic innovation, participatory governance, sustainability transitions, and community-led social change.

This is a research-intensive postdoc opportunity for candidates who want to combine excellent scholarship with societal relevance. The role includes developing an independent research agenda within the broader ECCO project, co-authoring publications with supervisory teams and consortium partners, collaborating with PhD researchers across universities, and working with policymakers, civil servants, and citizen collectives. The postdocs will also contribute to project coordination, research leadership, and transdisciplinary engagement.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD degree (or equivalent) is required, along with advanced English (CEFR C1 or equivalent). The team is especially interested in applicants from organisation studies, sociology, public administration, political science, transition studies, social/environmental psychology, urban or sustainability studies, management studies, or related fields. Experience with interdisciplinary research, participatory or action research, stakeholder engagement, and producing practical tools or policy-oriented outputs is a strong advantage.

Funding and conditions: each postdoc is offered at 0.8 FTE for 3 years, with the possibility of expanding to 1 FTE through teaching duties. Salary is listed at €4,728–€6,433 gross per month on a full-time basis (Scale 11, CAO-NU), plus standard Dutch university benefits. The position is based on the Rotterdam campus, with regular on-campus presence expected.

Application window: the vacancy page lists the deadline as 18 April 2026. The post also urges applicants to complete the application and survey before 19 April, so early submission is recommended.
