The College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is seeking applications for a 12-month professional track faculty position as Academic Professional Assistant Professor (AP) to begin August 1, 2026. This role is centered on the oversight and maintenance of equipment at the university’s Three College Observatory, which includes a 0.8 meter optical telescope, CCD camera, and echelle spectrograph, as well as a small analog Spitz planetarium on the UNCG campus. The AP will also be responsible for teaching seven introductory astronomy courses throughout the academic year, distributed across fall, spring, and two summer sessions.

UNCG boasts an on-campus planetarium and the Three College Observatory, located 30 miles from campus at a dark-sky site. The observatory houses a 0.81-meter reflecting telescope, one of the largest in the southeastern United States, and serves as a hub for astronomical research, instruction, and community sky observing events. Applicants must hold at least a MS in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field. Preferred candidates will have experience maintaining telescopes and related equipment, electronic equipment, computer systems, and software, as well as enthusiasm for public outreach at the observatory and planetarium.
