About this position

The AgroBioSciences Program (AgBS) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is inviting applications for a post-doctoral position in Genomics and Bioinformatics. UM6P is a leading research institution in Africa, committed to advancing economic and human development through research and innovation. Located in Benguerir's Green City, the university fosters a collaborative environment and aims to make a significant impact both regionally and globally.

This postdoctoral opportunity focuses on generating and analyzing genomic data related to rhizobia, including their characterization, distribution, diversity, and transmission mechanisms with host plants. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team and contribute to projects that have direct relevance to agriculture and microbial ecology in Morocco and across Africa.

Main responsibilities include conducting research on rhizobia using 16s RNA and ITS sequencing, performing whole-genome sequencing experiments, taxonomy characterization, and bioinformatics analysis of generated data. The postdoc will also co-supervise master’s and doctoral students and is expected to publish research findings in high-impact journals.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field, with demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics pipelines (such as Illumina, MiseQ, Sanger), taxonomy analysis, diversity, and genotyping. Experience with 16s RNA and ITS sequencing data analysis and a strong publication record are required. Excellent English communication skills, motivation, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential.

To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter outlining their research interests, a detailed CV, a brief research statement, and contact information for two references. The application deadline is June 16, 2026. For further information, applicants may contact Professor Jemo Martin at [email protected].

This position offers an excellent opportunity to advance your research career in a vibrant academic setting, contributing to impactful projects in genomics and bioinformatics with agricultural and ecological significance.
