About this position

The African Genome Center (AGC) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco offers a postdoctoral fellowship in bioinformatics and microbial genomics. AGC is a leading research institution focused on biodiversity genomics, OMICS and metabolic engineering, genome editing, and natural product chemistry and metabolomics. The center is equipped with advanced genomics platforms and aims to be a central hub for genome biology research and training in Morocco and Africa. AGC’s mission is to democratize genomics research across the continent, supporting both fundamental and applied investigations in agriculture, conservation, environment, food security, and health.

This postdoctoral position is part of Professor Vittorio Venturi’s research group, which investigates bacterial cell-cell signaling within plant microbiomes. The successful candidate will analyze genomics and metagenomics data to dissect signaling systems of plant-associated bacteria and study the genomic features of beneficial bacterial strains. The research is at the intersection of genomics, microbiology, and agriculture, contributing to sustainable agricultural solutions and advancing understanding of microbial interactions in plant ecosystems.

Applicants must have a PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Microbial Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related field. Required qualifications include expertise in bacteriology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and soil and rhizosphere microbial genomics, proficiency in molecular biology laboratory techniques, a strong publication record in internationally recognized journals, and excellent English communication skills. The AGC team is international and diverse, offering a collaborative environment and opportunities for technology transfer and skills development.

To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, and contact details for three references via the application portal. For further information, contact Professor Vittorio Venturi at [email protected]. More details about AGC can be found at https://agc.um6p.ma. The application deadline is unspecified; early applications are encouraged.
