About this position

The African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_AIR) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is offering a postdoctoral position focused on Earth Observation, Artificial Intelligence, and Territorial Sustainability. UM6P is a leading research institution in Africa, committed to economic and human development, and aims to make a lasting impact at national, continental, and global levels. ARC_AIR is dedicated to advancing scientific understanding and innovative solutions in air quality, atmospheric chemistry, and climate, supporting sustainable development through high-impact research, capacity building, and technology transfer.

The postdoctoral researcher will join an interdisciplinary program addressing climate change, urbanization, resource systems, and territorial performance, with a focus on Morocco, Africa, and semi-arid to arid regions. The research will integrate multi-source satellite data, machine learning, and spatial modeling to develop predictive and operational frameworks for climate-resilient and sustainable territories. Key research axes include AI-driven territorial diagnostics, climate–water–energy–agriculture interactions, land-use and land-cover change impacts, sustainability indicators and decision-support tools, energy demand and metabolism assessments, and urban/peri-urban agriculture as climate-resilient solutions.

Expected contributions include conducting independent and collaborative research leading to publications in high-impact international journals, developing and applying advanced geospatial, statistical, and AI-based methodologies, contributing to international research projects and proposals, supporting graduate student supervision, and engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers and stakeholders.

Applicants must have a PhD in relevant fields such as Remote Sensing, Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science, Climate Science, Data Science, or Urban Studies. Required skills include strong Earth Observation data analysis, spatial modeling, publication record in peer-reviewed journals, experience with machine/deep learning or AI applied to environmental or urban systems, and familiarity with climate modeling, urban climate, urban agriculture, water resources, and energy systems. Interdisciplinary or international research experience and interest in policy-relevant research are also expected.

To apply, candidates should submit a cover letter, CV with publication list, research statement, representative publications, and contact information for two referees. The application link is provided. Funding details are not specified in the announcement. The deadline is unspecified; early applications are encouraged.
