About this position

The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI), part of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher specializing in desert and arid land agriculture. UM6P is a leading institution focused on research and innovation for sustainable economic development in Morocco and Africa, offering a dynamic and state-of-the-art environment for academic growth.

ASARI is located in Laayoune City and is dedicated to addressing real-world challenges in drylands and marginal environments, with research spanning agricultural production, animal value chains, water and energy sustainability, biorefinery, bioenergy, and more. The institute collaborates with a wide network of universities and research centers across Africa, fostering multidisciplinary research teams that include food engineers, agronomists, biochemists, and biologists.

The postdoctoral position involves developing and improving cropping practices under marginal and arid conditions, testing and upscaling resilient crops, and conducting both field and greenhouse trials to assess crop responses to various factors such as stress, amendments, and photoperiod. The successful candidate will also develop and deliver training modules to farmers, cooperatives, and extension agents, as well as supervise students and interns at various academic levels.

Additional responsibilities include project management (budget, materials, equipment, staff), research proposal and report writing, manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals, and maintaining field and laboratory equipment. The role requires frequent travel to experimental platforms and farmers' fields both nationally and internationally.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in agricultural sciences, agronomy, crop science, plant science, or a closely related field, with at least 5 years of field-based agricultural research experience. Required expertise includes one or more of the following: marginal and desert environments, salinity management, crop and soil modelling, or crop production. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, proficiency in statistical software and data analysis, and a solid publication record. Fluency in English is required, with French and Arabic considered advantageous. Experience in multidisciplinary teams, research leadership, and supervisory roles is also essential.

To apply, use the provided application link and submit a cover letter specifying your area of expertise, along with your CV and supporting documents. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful research in sustainable agriculture within a vibrant academic community.
