The Theological Faculty at the University of Basel is advertising an assistant position (60%) in Old Testament / Hebrew Bible for a Doc or PostDoc candidate. The appointment starts on 1 January 2027 or by agreement and combines research, further academic qualification, teaching, and academic service.

This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates working in biblical studies, theology, religious studies, and related humanities fields. The role includes independent research aimed at a doctorate or habilitation, participation in teaching (2 SWS), support for projects such as third-party funding applications and international workshops, and involvement in academic self-administration.

Eligibility highlights: an excellent academic degree in theology with a focus on Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, preferably a doctorate; very good Hebrew knowledge; strong English and German skills; ability to understand and correspond in German or willingness to acquire sufficient German within six months; openness to interdisciplinary and international collaboration; and enjoyment of independent, theory-oriented scholarly work.
