About this position

North Carolina State University’s Department of Animal Science is recruiting for two tenure-track faculty positions: Assistant Professor – Nutritional Science and Assistant Professor – Equine Science.

Nutritional Science: This is a 9-month tenure-track role with a 20% academic / 80% research split. The successful candidate will build a strong research program in nutritional biochemistry and animal metabolism, with a strong interest in livestock species. Preferred research areas include gastrointestinal health, immunology, endocrinology, nutrigenomics, metabolomics, gastrointestinal microbiology, digestive physiology, and muscle biology. The role includes teaching at least one core graduate-level nutrition course each year and supporting the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Nutrition and the Food Animal Initiative.

Equine Science: This is a 12-month tenure-track role focused on equine management, combining teaching and extension. The position is 70% academic / 30% extension and emphasizes adult education and support for the equine industry. Preferred candidates will have proposed or established extension programs in equine science, practical industry experience, and experience teaching hands-on equine management classes. Responsibilities include teaching core animal science courses and developing an additional course in an equine-related area.

Eligibility: For both positions, a Ph.D. in animal science or a relevant field is required by the start date. Candidates should demonstrate strong teaching and mentoring commitment; the nutritional science role also requires evidence of peer-reviewed publication potential and the ability to develop an extramurally funded research program.

Application: Review of applications begins 30 days after the job opens. The positions remain open until filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV/resume, and contact information for three professional references through the NC State employment portal.

Institution: North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina, United States.
