About this position
University of Geneva and the NCCR Evolving Language are inviting applications for an Assistant Professor with Tenure Track or Associate Professor in Computational Neuroscience within the Department of Basic Neurosciences, Faculty of Medicine.
This opportunity is especially relevant for researchers working at the intersection of computational neuroscience, language, cognitive science, and neural modelling. The post highlights research on neural encoding of hierarchy in language, the neural basis of compositional processing and compositional reasoning, and neurocomputational principles of learning and memory systems supporting language. Applicants with other meaningful connections between computational neuroscience and language are also welcome, and diverse methodological approaches are valued, including evolutionarily and biologically plausible neural modelling.
The successful candidate will join the interdisciplinary NCCR Evolving Language, contribute to its scientific development, and take on teaching and administrative responsibilities within the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Basic Neurosciences. Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervision of Master’s and doctoral theses are part of the role.
Eligibility highlights: PhD or equivalent in a relevant field; strong publication record; experience leading a research team; evidence of competitive research funding; and ability to collaborate across disciplines. Candidates without French are encouraged to apply, with support offered to develop French proficiency during the first three years.
Application deadline: 22 May 2026. Applications must be submitted online only. Required materials include a detailed cover letter, CV with Google Scholar H-index, publication list from the last five years, research project, copies of diplomas, and names of three referees.
Contact: Alexis Hervais-Adelman (scientific questions) and Viviane Burghardt (administrative questions) at the University of Geneva.
