This post shares a research update from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur on a numerical framework for OH planar laser-induced fluorescence (OH-PLIF) imaging in hydrogen-air combustion.

The work combines CFD, detailed chemical kinetics, collisional quenching, laser-sheet attenuation, and radiative transitions to simulate OH fluorescence and interpret reacting-flow measurements. A key contribution is a novel temperature-dependent OH partition function that reproduces HITRAN data with very low mean error across a wide temperature range. The study also includes synthetic OH-PLIF imaging at multiple wavelengths and analysis of fluorescence signatures during tulip flame formation.
