I am looking for two PhD students for the ERC funded project, CHINA.EU . The PhDs will:
- be based at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in the Media Department (currently the Centre for Global Media and Communications);
- be fully-funded, with no tuition fees and a yearly stipend in-line with UK university norms;
- include fieldwork in France (PhD 1) or Germany (PhD 2).
Submissions via email.
The PhDs would be supervised by the PI, Dr Carwyn Morris, and other faculty members. The PhDs would contribute to the CHINA.EU project and would have resources to engage in fieldwork and long-term research projects, participate in international conferences, host workshops, publish materials, and work with non-academic organisations alongside the PI. These PhD projects are ideally suited for someone with an interest in human geography, media studies, the cultural industries, and global China.
The PhDs will be housed within the Media Department at the SOAS. The project is interdisciplinary, mixing human geography and media studies. The project is most closely aligned with scholarship on platform urbanism, human geography, media studies, and infrastructure studies, as well as the emerging research on wanghong urbanism and global China.
Deadline: July 21st 2025.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview with the PI on July 23. The selected candidates will need to complete their online application by July 25.
Selected candidates would be expected to start in October 2025 for the 2025/26 academic year.
To submit your materials please email the PI, Dr Carwyn Morris [email protected]
