About this position
Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a full-time doctoral fellowship in the Department of Basic and Applied Medical Sciences. The Gut-Liver ImmunoPharmacology Unit, in collaboration with the Hepatology Research Unit, invites applications from motivated PhD candidates for a translational research project focused on chronic liver diseases. The research aims to unravel the pathogenesis of chronic liver disease using human samples, animal models, and in vitro assays, with the ultimate goal of earning a doctoral degree.
As a doctoral fellow, you will investigate mechanisms underlying chronic liver diseases and employ a range of advanced techniques, including qRT-PCR, ELISA, Western blot, Luminex, flow cytometry, FACS, and single-cell RNA-seq. The project is highly interdisciplinary, combining immunology, hepatology, pharmacology, and cell biology. You will join a vibrant research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and benefit from collaboration between two specialized research units.
Applicants must hold a master's degree in Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or Veterinary Sciences. Strong communication and writing skills in English are essential. While prior experience with relevant laboratory techniques is advantageous, motivation and eagerness to learn are equally valued. The position is ideal for candidates with a keen interest in immunology, hepatology, and pharmacology.
The fellowship is offered for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 48 months following positive evaluation. The salary is set at 100% of the net salary of an AAP member, determined by family status and seniority, and is tax-free. Ghent University provides a comprehensive benefits package, including training and education opportunities, 36 days of annual holiday leave, fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers.
Applications must be submitted by June 30, 2026. To apply, send your CV, diploma (if available), and motivation letter to Prof. Lindsey Devisscher at [email protected]. Late applications will not be considered. Ghent University is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply. For further information about the vacancy, contact Prof. Lindsey Devisscher at the provided email address.
