About this position

ETH Zürich is offering two paid, full-time doctoral fellowships in its Architecture & Technology (A&T) Doctoral Programme, starting October 1, 2026. The programme is highly interdisciplinary, managed by the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA), and brings together over 50 international doctoral students. It covers a wide range of research areas including architecture and digital fabrication, structures, building systems, digital building technologies, and construction heritage and preservation. Fellows will join one of several professorships, such as Gramazio Kohler Research or Block Research Group, and are expected to select the most suitable group for their research proposal.

The programme emphasizes productive synergies between architecture and technology, welcoming candidates with strong technical, engineering, or scientific backgrounds, as well as architects interested in technology. Research topics include computational design, building processes, digital and robotic construction, and sustainability, with work taking place in the Arch_Tec_Lab, a high-tech zero-emissions building. The fellowship provides excellent working conditions, a unique research infrastructure, and monthly salaries for 3.5 years. Graduates have gone on to leading academic and industry positions worldwide.

Applicants must hold a Master's degree in architecture, engineering, or related fields, and be proficient in English. The application process requires a cover letter, CV, portfolio, and research statement, all submitted via the online portal by January 31, 2026. The selection process includes internal assessments, interviews, and a final aptitude colloquium. ETH Zürich values diversity, sustainability, and offers a supportive, inclusive environment.
