About this position

Karolinska Institutet, one of the world's leading medical universities, invites applications for a Doctoral (PhD) Student Position in Clinical Neuroscience. The successful candidate will join the Centre for Psychiatry Research within the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, affiliated with Dr Kristoffer Månsson’s research group. This interdisciplinary environment offers opportunities to collaborate with multiple researchers and research assistants, contributing to larger research programs characterized by shared methodologies, databases, and research questions.

The doctoral project integrates experimental neuroimaging, psychophysiology, advanced computational modeling, and psychological treatment of common psychiatric conditions such as depression and anxiety. The research aims to provide novel insights into the neural dynamics underlying the emergence and reduction of anxiety and depression during ongoing treatment, ultimately deepening our understanding of biological processes and subjective experiences to improve psychiatric treatments.

As a doctoral student, you will participate in planning and executing research studies, including data collection (which may require evening and weekend work), advanced data analysis, scientific writing, and presentation of research findings. The position offers a creative and inspiring environment, access to a wide range of elective courses, and opportunities for international exchanges through Karolinska Institutet’s global collaborations.

Eligibility requirements include a second-cycle/advanced/master qualification or equivalent, or completion of at least 240 credits (with at least 60 at the advanced/master level), or substantially equivalent knowledge. Proficiency in English equivalent to English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school is required. Applicants must demonstrate documented experience in data analysis, including fMRI and psychophysiological data processing. Experience in clinical psychology or psychiatry is considered an asset. Strong collaborative skills, analytical and methodical approach, and clear communication are expected.

The doctoral studentship is a full-time position for up to 4 years, with a contractual monthly salary. Additional benefits include free access to the university gym and medical care reimbursements. Applications must be submitted via the Varbi recruitment system and should include a personal letter, CV, degree projects/publications, and documentation of eligibility and relevant skills. The application deadline is 14 May 2026.
