The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a doctoral researcher position in 16th and 17th century political history. This opportunity is based within the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE), renowned for its interdisciplinary and multilingual research environment. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team specializing in early modern history, contributing to the CORE project GOVLU, which investigates the governance of the Duchy of Luxembourg within the polycentric monarchy of Habsburg Spain. The research will focus on political actors and communication strategies at the periphery of the Spanish Netherlands, with a provisional thesis entitled 'Luxembourg-Brussels, aller-retour. Correspondence, mobility and discourse in the government of a strategic periphery of the Spanish Netherlands (16th-17th c.)'.

Supervision will be provided by Professor Monique Weis, Principal Investigator of the GOVLU project. The position offers a fixed-term contract of 36 months, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 43445, funded by the Fonds national de la recherche (FNR). Applicants should hold a Master's degree in history, preferably with a focus on early modern history and the Spanish Low Countries or polycentric monarchy of Spain. Experience with archival sources in French and/or German, interest in digital tools for archival processing and discourse analysis, and a willingness to relocate to Luxembourg are required. Candidates must demonstrate at least B2-level proficiency in the language of their thesis. The ability to work collaboratively and expand academic networks is essential.
