About this position

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a doctoral researcher position in Biological, Clinical & Health Psychology. This opportunity is part of the DEPLOY project, funded by the Fonds National de la Recherche Luxembourg (FNR), which aims to investigate interoception-based trainings to reduce somatic symptom distress and translate these interventions into a mobile application. The successful candidate will join the Brain-Body-Interaction Research Group and the Clinical Psychophysiology Laboratory, led by Prof. Dr. André Schulz, within the Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences.

The interdisciplinary research team includes André Schulz (PI), Philip Santangelo, Inès Chihi, and Jochen Klucken, spanning departments of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences, Engineering, and Systems Biomedicine. The PhD candidate will be enrolled in the Doctoral School of Social Sciences and will participate in five independent studies, recruiting and assessing participants from both the general public and clinical populations with somatic symptom disorders. Three studies will be conducted in the laboratory, and two in ambulatory settings using a mobile application.

Responsibilities include clinically-psychological and psychophysiological assessment (e.g., ECG, photoplethysmography), behavioural and self-report data analysis, and co-development of a mobile application for interoception assessment and training. The doctoral thesis will be based on original manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on Biological, Clinical, and Health Psychology.

Applicants should have experience or interest in stress, interoception, mental disorders with somatic symptoms, psychological assessment, psychophysiological methods, ambulatory data collection, digital/mobile health technology, and relevant theories and models. B2-level proficiency in the thesis language is required. The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, dynamic, and inclusive research environment, with strong links to professional sectors and a unique urban campus.

The position is a fixed-term contract for 36 months, full-time (40 hours/week), based at Belval Campus. The yearly gross salary is EUR 43445. Applications should include a CV, cover letter, and transcript of university-level courses. Early application is encouraged, and all qualified individuals are welcome to apply online through the HR system. The University promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds.
