About this position

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in Criminal Law and Law Enforcement within its Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF). This international research university offers a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary environment, benefiting from its proximity to European institutions and Luxembourg's financial centre. The FDEF is a dynamic academic hub with strong institutional and private sector partnerships, sponsored Chairs, and a growing network of international partner universities.

The doctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Professor Stanislaw Tosza, focusing on a doctoral thesis in compliance and law enforcement. The suggested theme is the emerging role of artificial intelligence (AI) in corporate compliance programs designed to prevent and detect crime, though candidates are welcome to propose related topics within this overarching theme. The position includes contributing to teaching activities and being part of a research group with several doctoral and postdoctoral researchers working on criminal law, criminal procedure, enforcement, compliance, and new technologies.

Applicants must hold a Master's Degree in criminal law, cyberlaw, law & tech, compliance, EU law with a focus on digital governance, or another relevant discipline. Language proficiency at least B2-level in the thesis language is required, with accepted certificates as specified by the university. The contract is fixed term for 36 months, extendable to 48 months if required, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 43445 (full time). The position is based at the Weicker Building, University of Luxembourg.

The university offers a modern, dynamic, and inclusive atmosphere, with staff from over 90 countries and membership in The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities. The research environment is exceptional, supported by skilled staff and high-quality equipment, and features strong links to professional sectors and the Luxembourg labour market. The urban campus provides excellent infrastructure and opportunities for cooperation with European institutions, innovative companies, the Financial Centre, and a wide range of non-academic partners.

To apply, candidates should submit a CV, cover letter, transcript of university-level courses, a detailed research proposal (2-4 pages) including bibliography, and contact information for one referee. Early application is encouraged as applications are processed upon reception. Applications must be submitted online through the HR system; email applications will not be considered. The University of Luxembourg promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
