About this position
The University of Luxembourg, a leading international research university, invites applications for a doctoral researcher position in European Union Law. The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF) offers a unique academic environment, benefiting from its proximity to European institutions and Luxembourg's financial centre. The Department of Law seeks a PhD candidate to join the Doctoral Training Unit on Green and Digital Transitions in the Single Market (DTU-GREITMA), funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). This interdisciplinary unit brings together 13 PhD candidates to address societal, ecological, and economic challenges facing the EU Single Market, focusing on the transformative effects of green and digital transitions, regulatory mechanisms for a data-driven society, and enforcement strategies in a multi-level system.
The doctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Professor Eleftheria Neframi, preparing a thesis in European Law, in English or French. The research theme centers on the external dimension of green and digital transitions. The candidate will be part of a dynamic research group and Doctoral school, collaborating with peers from the Department of Law and the Luxembourg Centre for European Law (LCEL). Opportunities to contribute to teaching seminars or tutorials are available.
Applicants must hold a Master's Degree in European Law and demonstrate fluency in either English or French, with a good understanding of the second language. Knowledge of German or another third language is advantageous. The University offers a modern, inclusive, and multilingual environment, with staff from over 90 countries and strong links to professional sectors and European institutions. The position is a fixed-term contract for 36 months, full-time (40 hours/week), based at the Weicker Building.
Funding is provided by the FNR, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 43445 for doctoral researchers. The application process requires submission of a CV, cover letter, research project (2000-3000 words), transcript of university studies, and contact information for one referee. Early applications are encouraged, as review is ongoing. Applications must be submitted online via the University HR system; email applications will not be considered.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in European Law, green and digital transitions, and the evolving regulatory landscape of the EU Single Market. The University of Luxembourg promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
