Tampere University invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in Microelectronics and Integrated Circuit (IC) Design, focusing on ultra-low-power SoCs and advanced adaptive clock and power management architectures. The position is based in the Integrated Power & Sensing Systems (IPSS) Lab within the Electrical Engineering Unit at the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences. The lab specializes in energy-efficient ICs and system solutions for next-generation edge and bio-integrated applications, emphasizing co-design of sensing interfaces, adaptive power delivery, and mixed-signal integrated systems.

The research will center on developing advanced adaptive voltage and frequency scaling techniques to enhance energy efficiency and robustness under process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) variations and extreme workload fluctuations. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing circuit and architecture-level solutions for critical-path monitoring, clock generation, and power regulation in advanced CMOS technologies. The role also involves modeling, simulation, and experimental validation of timing, power, and performance trade-offs, as well as disseminating research findings through scientific publications, reports, and conference presentations. Collaboration with colleagues across Tampere University and external project partners is integral to the position.

Applicants must hold a master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field prior to the start date. Essential skills include IC design, tape-out, experimental validation, PCB board design, and strong English language proficiency. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to conduct systematic scientific research, problem-solving skills, and effective communication in multidisciplinary and international environments. If the degree was not completed in Finland, an official English certificate is required. The successful candidate must apply for and be granted a study right for a doctoral degree at Tampere University.

The position is offered for a fixed-term period of up to four years, starting in September 2026, with a six-month trial period. The typical starting salary is approximately 2700 EUR/month, increasing with experience and doctoral progress.
