About this position
The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in Molecular and Cellular Cancer Immunology. This opportunity is based within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM), which is renowned for its multidisciplinary expertise and international research environment. The university offers a modern, dynamic atmosphere with a distinctly multilingual and inclusive character, and is a member of The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities.
The doctoral researcher will conduct wet-lab research using mouse models and/or cancer patient samples, develop and apply patient-derived 3D models, immune co-cultures, and study cellular interactions via extracellular vesicles. The role includes analyzing high-throughput datasets using R or similar software tools, presenting research findings in meetings, documenting experiments for reproducibility, and contributing to scientific reports, grant applications, and publications. Participation in lab and institutional activities, including seminars, PhD days, and mentoring opportunities, is expected, as well as active engagement in the doctoral training program.
Applicants must hold a Master's degree in a relevant field such as immunology, molecular/cell biology, biomedicine, or related disciplines. Essential skills include a strong foundation in adaptive immunity, familiarity with B cell development, antibody structure, and immune responses in cancer. Hands-on experience with cell culture, PCR, western blotting, and basic functional assays using immune or cancer cell models is required. Working knowledge of flow cytometry for immune cell phenotyping is needed; experience with multi-parameter panels or cell sorting is a plus. Understanding of extracellular vesicle biology, ideally in the context of tumor-immune interactions, and basic knowledge of DNA editing/mutagenesis tools (e.g., CRISPR, deaminases, repair pathways) are advantageous. Applicants should be comfortable working with biological datasets; experience with R, Python, or omics analysis pipelines is preferred, but a willingness to learn is valued. B2-level proficiency in the thesis language is required, with accepted certificates as per university guidelines.
The position offers a fixed-term contract of 36 months, full-time (40 hours per week), based at the Belval Campus. The yearly gross salary for doctoral researchers at the University of Luxembourg is EUR 43445. The university provides an exceptional research environment, strong links to professional sectors and the Luxembourg labour market, and excellent infrastructure on a unique urban campus. Collaboration with European institutions, innovative companies, the Financial Centre, and a wide range of non-academic partners is actively promoted.
Applications should be submitted online through the HR system, including a CV, cover letter, and transcript of university-level courses. Early application is encouraged as applications are processed upon reception. Applications by email will not be considered. The University of Luxembourg promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, dedicated to upholding equality and respect for employees and students.
