Description

The University of Jyväskylä's Faculty of Education and Psychology is inviting applications for 1-2 Doctoral Researcher positions within the Academy of Finland funded project "GENTRY - Towards sustainability of multi-generational learning at work." This project explores how learning generations are constructed and interact in workplaces, with a particular focus on healthcare and ICT organizations in Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. The research employs multi-method ethnographic approaches to identify types of learning generations, inter- and intra-generational workplace learning practices, and support needs for sustainable workplace learning. The main responsibility of the Doctoral Researcher will be to conduct their own doctoral thesis research within the GENTRY project. A small amount of teaching (up to 5% of working time) may be assigned. The position is fixed-term for one to two years, starting February 1, 2026, or as agreed. The starting salary is approximately 2500 €/month (gross), with increases as the thesis progresses, in line with the Collective Agreement of Finnish Education Employers. The position offers the opportunity to work in a motivated, international, and multidisciplinary research group, with excellent facilities and a supportive academic environment. Applicants must hold a relevant Master's degree and have the right to pursue doctoral studies in the Doctoral Programme of Education at the University of Jyväskylä. If not already admitted, successful candidates must apply for post-graduate study rights after selection. Candidates should demonstrate competence and interest in generationality and/or workplace learning, evidenced by previous studies or work experience. Experience in research, proficiency in qualitative or quantitative methods, and good command of Swedish are considered assets. The university values equality and diversity and encourages qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply. To apply, submit your application online by 4 December 2025. Required documents (in English, PDF format) include a CV (following the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity template), a short motivation/cover letter, degree certificate, possible list of publications, and a preliminary research plan related to the project. Applications sent via email will not be considered. For further information, contact Professor Kaija Collin at kaija.m.collin@jyu.fi.
