About this position

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany, invites applications for a Doctoral Thesis Researcher (PhD) position in the Nanotechnology Group. This research group is renowned for its interdisciplinary work in localized deposition from molecular flux, focusing on the evaporation and transport of precursor materials via gas flow and electrical fields. The research aims to enable precise fabrication of materials using specialized reactor systems, with global and local fields, gas mixtures, and concentrations playing pivotal roles in the process.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, constructing, and testing novel physical experimental setups to facilitate localized deposition from molecular flux. The role also involves exploring new physical and chemical deposition methods, assisting with project proposals and documentation, and analyzing and publishing scientific results in international journals. The position is ideal for scientists seeking to advance their academic qualifications and secure a postdoctoral position upon completion of the doctoral program.

Applicants must possess a completed degree (M.Sc., M.Eng., Dipl.-Ing., or equivalent) in electrical engineering, material science, chemistry, micro/nanotechnology, or a related field. Preferred qualifications include experience with plasma processes, surface modification, micro/nanotechnology, packaging/backend technology, lithography, materials analysis, and SEM. Excellent written and spoken English skills (Level B2) are required, and candidates should provide certificates and references as evidence of their qualifications.

The university offers attractive remuneration according to the collective agreement (TV-L), including a special annual payment, 30 days of vacation per calendar year, additional days off on 24 and 31 December, a family-friendly and flexible working time model, a pension scheme (VBL), a wide range of individual training opportunities, and extensive health and sports programs. The working environment is respectful and supportive, with a strong emphasis on innovative teaching and interdisciplinary research. Ilmenau University of Technology is recognized for its commitment to gender equality and inclusivity, holding the "TOTAL E-Quality" distinction. Severely disabled applicants with essentially identical professional suitability will be preferentially selected.

The application deadline is 28 June 2026. For further information, candidates may contact Prof. Heiko O. Jacobs. Applications should be submitted online via the provided application link, ensuring all relevant qualifications and experiences are clearly highlighted.
