We’re hiring an Engineering Design Specialist for a contract, remote role focused on creating advanced, simulation-based engineering problems for AI evaluation. The work is centered on realistic design scenarios, trade-offs, component sizing, iterative problem-solving, and physics-based validation.

The role is especially relevant for candidates with expertise in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Control Systems, Materials / Nanotechnology, Engineering Physics / Optics, Aerospace Engineering, Civil / Structural Engineering, Nuclear / Energy Systems, Systems Engineering, or Robotics. The post also emphasizes strong scripting ability, especially Python, and experience with simulation tools.

Responsibilities include designing and validating engineering problems, developing complete problem sets with solutions and edge cases, ensuring multiple failure modes, and collaborating with researchers to refine tasks based on model performance. This is not a traditional academic opening; it is a paid contract position supporting AI/LLM evaluation and data curation.

Eligibility highlights: Master’s or PhD in Engineering or Applied Sciences, 3+ years of hands-on design experience, simulation experience (open-source preferred), and strong attention to detail in physical modeling and validation. Nice-to-have experience includes creating academic or graduate-level design problems, CI/CD or automated testing, and cross-domain expertise.

Funding/compensation: Pay-per-task, flexible based on complexity. The engagement lasts 22 weeks (about 5 months), with a minimum of 4 hours/day and up to 40 hours/week, plus 4 hours overlap with PST.
