About this position

This ERC-funded postdoctoral position at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) offers a unique opportunity to join the MaGMa project, focusing on Gender, Material Culture, and Maintenance Activities in Colonial Situations. The research line explores the intersection of gender, material culture, and maintenance activities within colonial contexts, with a particular emphasis on the Mariana Islands and CHamoru culture. The project is coordinated by Professor Sandra Montón Subías and supported by a diverse team of experts in archaeology and history.

The successful candidate will engage in advanced research tasks, including the analysis of historical sources related to 'Dying in a colony,' leading the theme of rematriation and repair of historical heritage in Tåno’ Låguas yan Gåni, and contributing to the study of indigenous ontologies. The role also involves supporting the project's digital database by entering primary and secondary data across various research lines. Collaboration in teaching activities is possible, up to 180 hours over three years, subject to approval by the Principal Investigator.

Applicants must hold a PhD in archaeology or history and demonstrate experience in the cultural analysis of CHamoru culture, historical repair in colonial contexts of the Mariana Islands, and knowledge of Pacific historical heritage. Skills in digital humanities and database management are also valued. The position requires a willingness to live and work in Barcelona, and candidates must meet eligibility criteria regarding disciplinary history and public sector access.

The contract is fully funded for three years, with a gross annual salary of approximately 35,769.48€, supported by the ERC-2023-AdG project. The application deadline is March 16, 2026. Applications should be submitted via the Interfolio platform, including identification, PhD certificate, and a concise CV. The selection process involves a committee of academic experts and may include interviews to clarify qualifications.
