About this position
This project will involve research into predicting the number and character of exoplanets using the GULLS microlensing simulation package for predicting exoplanet returns from the Nancy Grace Roman space telescope, and other current or proposed space and ground telescopes. This is an extension of the work described in the following papers: Penny, Matthew T., et al. "Predictions of the WFIRST microlensing survey. I. Bound planet detection rates." The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series 241.1 (2019): 3. Johnson, Samson A., et al. "Predictions of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope galactic exoplanet survey. II. Free-floating planet detection rates." The Astronomical Journal 160.3 (2020): 123. As part of your application to a PhD at The University of Auckland, you have to complete a Statement of Research Intent. You have 600 words to provide a description of the proposed research. Include the scientific rationale for the project, the main research questions or knowledge gaps to be addressed, and an indication of the intended methodology. You have 200 words to explain why your previous research or professional experience is relevant to your area of interest, and you have a final 100 words for any other comments.
