About this position

The Centre for the Study of the United States at the University of Toronto’s Munk School is offering faculty funding opportunities for research on U.S. politics, society, culture, and the United States’ role in the world.

Two opportunities are open for the 2025–2026 award session: the Faculty Research Award and the CSUS Research Fellowship. These awards support interdisciplinary work connected to American studies, political science, sociology, history, international relations, public policy, and related fields.

Faculty Research Award: valued at up to $10,000, with the possibility of an additional $3,000 to support an undergraduate research assistant. Two awards are available: one for a pre-tenured faculty member and one for an Associate Professor. Funds may be used for archival travel, fieldwork, research materials, research assistance, editing, convening research teams, and publication subventions. Recipients are expected to participate in Centre programming and submit a brief report after the funds are used.

CSUS Research Fellowship: valued at $15,000. Eligible applicants include current Professors at any level and Lecturers/CLTAs with continuing appointments at the University of Toronto. Applicants must submit a CV, a 500-word description of current research interests, and a description of a proposed public research event with a tentative budget in a single PDF. The fellowship supports a workshop or similar event tied to the recipient’s research and the annual theme, “Breaking Point? Continuity and Rupture in U.S. Governance.”

The application deadline for both opportunities is May 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM. This is a funding call rather than a PhD, postdoc, or master’s opening.
