The University of Liverpool Management School is offering four-year fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for Economics PhD students, starting in October 2026. These fellowships provide a unique opportunity to combine advanced research training with hands-on teaching experience in higher education. Successful candidates will receive a comprehensive financial package, including a £20,780 annual maintenance grant, full coverage of PhD programme fees, and access to a £700 per year GTF allowance from Year 2, as well as support for conference attendance.

As a GTF, you will engage in a structured teacher training programme during your first year, leading to a formal higher education teaching qualification. This training includes mentored classroom involvement and the development of key pedagogical skills, preparing you for a competitive academic job market. Throughout the fellowship, you will balance your doctoral research with a fixed number of teaching hours, gaining valuable experience as a higher education teacher.

Applicants should hold a UK master’s degree or international equivalent in economics or a related discipline, preferably at merit or above, and demonstrate strong quantitative and programming skills. A compelling research proposal is required, with potential topics including microeconomics theory, applied microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, financial econometrics, political economy, industrial organisation, and sports economics.
