About this position

The Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) is offering a full-time research and teaching assistant position within its School of Engineering, located in Brussels, Belgium. This opportunity is designed for candidates seeking to pursue a doctoral thesis in the field of physiological fluid dynamics, while also contributing to undergraduate teaching in engineering sciences.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in both research and teaching. Teaching responsibilities include supervising exercise sessions for four courses across two Bachelor’s programmes, covering topics in environmental engineering, physics, and process engineering. The courses are: Enjeux d'une ingénierie durable (ENVI-H-1000), Physique quantique, physique statistique et chimie physique (PHYS-H-200), Mécanique rationnelle 2 (MECA-H-200), and Introduction au génie des procédés (CHIM-H-314).

Research activities will focus on a doctoral project under the supervision of Professors F. Debaste, Benoit Haut, and P. Lambert. The project aims to advance understanding of physiological fluids, including their evaporation, drying, production, secretion, flow, transport, and deposition in biomedical contexts. The candidate will employ a combination of experimental techniques and numerical simulations, utilizing tools such as 3D printing, optical diagnostic methods, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to investigate the physical mechanisms underlying these complex phenomena.

Applicants should possess strong knowledge in analytical mechanics, physical chemistry, and process engineering. Essential qualities include autonomy, rigor, teamwork skills, and fluency in French. The position is open to candidates who can demonstrate these competencies and are prepared to engage in both teaching and research at a high academic level.

To apply, candidates must submit a CV, a completed application template (available online), an application letter, a four-page note outlining their proposed PhD research project, and two letters of reference. Applications that do not follow the template or are incomplete will not be considered. The application portal is accessible at the provided link, and candidates from restricted countries should submit their materials via email to [email protected].

ULB is committed to diversity and equal opportunities, recruiting candidates based on skills regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, origin, nationality, beliefs, or disability. Reasonable accommodations are available for candidates with disabilities, disorders, or illnesses upon request. More information about ULB’s gender and diversity policy and research career regulations can be found on their website.

The application deadline is 26 May 2026 at 12:00 PM (Brussels time), and the position is expected to start on 1 October 2026. For further information, applicants may contact Professor Benoit Haut at [email protected].
