About this position
The Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) is offering a full-time research and teaching assistant position in multilingual communication within the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication. This opportunity is designed for candidates who wish to pursue a doctoral thesis while actively participating in teaching and research activities. The position is closely affiliated with the Research Centre for Information and Communication (ReSIC), focusing on themes such as discourse analysis, communication, multilingualism, and research methodologies.
The successful candidate will divide their time equally between teaching and research. Teaching responsibilities include supervising classes and exercise sessions, marking assignments, and providing educational support for theoretical courses in communication research methods, discourse analysis, semiotics, and multilingualism. The candidate will also participate in the assessment of examinations and internship reports, and supervise multilingual communication internships. Courses covered may include Multilingualism and Society, Discourse Analysis, Semiotic Approaches to Information and Communication, Research Methods in Information and Communication, and journalism and communication research projects. The list of courses is provisional and may be revised annually in coordination with department chairs.
Research duties involve conducting a doctoral thesis project on a subject related to the themes of ReSIC, preferably in discourse analysis related to multiculturalism. Applicants must submit a four-page thesis proposal outlining the research question, problem statement, and methodology, following the FNRS template. The position is initially granted for two years, with the possibility of renewal for up to six years in total, subject to review by relevant bodies.
Applicants must hold a Belgian Master's degree (or equivalent) with 120 credits, preferably in Information and Communication Sciences, and meet the conditions for admission to doctoral studies. Required skills include excellent knowledge of communication theories (marketing, digital, corporate, institutional), strong teaching abilities, fluency in French and English (preferably C1 level), and outstanding oral and written communication skills. Initiative, autonomy, group management, and teamwork are essential.
