About this position

🚨 Fully funded MRes studentship in applied performance science is available through a collaboration between Birmingham City Football Club and the University of Birmingham.

The project is titled “Invisible Monitoring of Football Players Across Varying Microcycle Structures” and combines postgraduate research with hands-on applied experience in an elite football environment. The successful candidate will work with the Men’s First-Team squad and may also be involved with Academy PDP players, supporting the delivery of the performance science programme at BCFC.

This opportunity is especially relevant for students interested in sports science, performance science, strength and conditioning, football monitoring, data collection, and applied research. The role includes performance testing, data management, administration, and delivery of performance development sessions, alongside an MRes research programme focused on monitoring football players across different microcycle structures.

Funding: the studentship is funded for one academic year, subject to satisfactory performance in both the MRes and the applied role. UK home-rate tuition fees (ÂŁ5,500) are fully covered.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning, or a related discipline, with a strong academic record and practical experience in a performance environment. Experience in professional or academy football is highly desirable.

Application materials: submit a CV and a research proposal. The proposal should align with the advertised theme, include a brief literature review, and outline the proposed studies for the MRes programme.

Institutional context: the role is based at Birmingham City FC’s Elite Performance & Innovation Centre in Birmingham, United Kingdom, with academic supervision at the University of Birmingham.
