About this position

The University of Manitoba in Canada is recruiting six motivated graduate students for fully funded MSc and PhD positions in the field of material chemistry. The research focuses on important problems in inorganic materials, battery chemistry, and machine learning-driven materials discovery. Students will have the opportunity to work on experimental inorganic material design, machine learning for material prediction and discovery, development and testing of active battery materials, scaling of battery material synthesis, and advanced material characterization using techniques such as X-ray diffraction, microscopy, and spectroscopy.

Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering, or a closely related subject. Strong English language proficiency and a competitive GPA are required. Curiosity in materials sciences and prior experience working in a research laboratory (such as undergraduate research projects, summer research, or student research assistantships) are preferred. Prior research experience in materials chemistry is an asset but not mandatory.

Successful candidates will receive a guaranteed stipend for the full duration of the program, with additional benefits including opportunities to attend international conferences, participate in graduate teaching assistantships, and work in a collaborative, international research environment. A vast range of additional graduate awards is also available to support students throughout their studies.

Interested applicants should visit the research group websites (Iyer Lab and Kuss Materials) for more information about the research areas and application process. Applications should be submitted through the University of Manitoba graduate admissions portal, and candidates are encouraged to prepare a CV, transcripts, and a statement of interest. For specific questions, contacting the research groups directly is recommended.
