Fully Funded PhD and Postdoc Positions in Organic Chemistry, Catalysis, and Materials Science at Stockholm University Stockholm University in Sweden

Stockholm University’s Rivero-Crespo Lab, led by Assistant Professor Miguel Rivero Crespo, is recruiting for two fully funded positions: a 4-year PhD and a 2-year Postdoc in the Department of Chemistry. The research group focuses on sustainable organic chemistry, catalysis, and materials science, particularly at the interface of organic chemistry and advanced materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The PhD position is part of a project funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet), while the Postdoc position is supported by the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE).

Research in the group is highly interdisciplinary, combining organic chemistry, materials science, and catalysis. Projects involve the synthesis and characterization of multifunctional MOFs, development of heterogeneous catalysts, and mechanistic studies of catalytic processes. The group’s philosophy centers on sustainability, aiming to minimize energy and resource use, reduce waste, and lower the environmental impact of chemical production. Recent work includes advanced materials for catalytic applications, sustainable organic transformations, and circularity in polymeric materials.

PhD candidates should have a master’s degree or equivalent in organic chemistry or a closely related field, with strong analytical, creative, and collaborative skills, and proficiency in English. The postdoc position requires a PhD in chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline, with expertise in porous materials, catalysis, and organic/materials chemistry. Funding is fully provided for both positions, including salary, tuition (for PhD), and research support. The PhD position is for 4 years, and the postdoc is for 2 years with possible extension.
