About this position

Trinity College Dublin is advertising a fully funded PhD studentship in Alzheimer’s disease research. The project focuses on retinal and choroidal imaging biomarkers as accessible, non-invasive indicators of presymptomatic Alzheimer’s disease in genetically determined populations, including Down syndrome-associated Alzheimer’s disease (DSAD) and autosomal dominant Alzheimer’s disease (ADAD).

The studentship is linked to the A O Connor Research Group, School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin, and is embedded within the longitudinal observational Down syndrome research programme. It is also connected with the National Intellectual Disability Memory Service at Tallaght University Hospital and the Institute of Memory and Cognition / Trinity Institute of Clinical Neuroscience.

Supervision: Prof. Antoinette O’Connor (Tallaght University Hospital), in collaboration with Mark Cahill and Sarah Doyle at Trinity College Dublin.

Funding: Fully funded for up to four years, covering PhD tuition fees and a tax-free stipend of €25,000 per annum, subject to satisfactory progress.

Eligibility / focus: Applicants should be interested in dementia, neurodegenerative disease, imaging biomarkers, and translational neuroscience. The post is full-time and fixed-term for 4 years.
