Université Lumière Lyon 2 and the LIRIS Laboratory are announcing a fully funded PhD opportunity in France in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision.

The PhD topic is Emotion Understanding in Videos, with a strong focus on facial expression recognition, emotion and social interaction analysis, deep neural networks, domain generalization, and multimodal AI for video understanding. The project aims to develop AI models that can analyze social and emotional interactions in videos, especially involving children and adults, to support the objective diagnosis of autism disorder (ASD).

The student will work on deep learning methods for facial expression and emotion analysis, multimodal video/data processing, improving model robustness in real-world and medical environments, and studying how models generalize to new data outside the training distribution.

Required skills include Python, PyTorch, OpenCV, Git, and Linux. A strong background in machine learning, computer vision, image processing, and mathematics/AI is expected. The English level requirement is C1 or higher.

The position is based at LIRIS, Université Lumière Lyon 2, Bron/Lyon, France, with an expected start date of October 2026. Funding is described as a PhD scholarship; no exact stipend amount is provided.
