Fully funded PhD opportunity in Civil Engineering, Concrete Engineering, and Materials Science at the University of Luxembourg (Belval). The position is hosted in the Sustainable Concrete Structure Laboratory and focuses on the project Carbon Intake, Durability, and Regeneration of Concrete Reuse.

The research is highly interdisciplinary and sits at the intersection of concrete structures engineering, carbon capture, circular economy, environmental sustainability, and materials science. The project aims to develop innovative solutions for increasing the service life of concrete and enabling sustainable reuse, including carbon capture inside concrete, improved resistance to damage, and biotechnology-based crack repair. The post also mentions collaboration with the Department of Physics and broader CCUS-related research in Luxembourg.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Strong knowledge of concrete behavior and concrete structures is preferred, along with good research skills, interest in interdisciplinary work, and excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of concrete durability and circular economy is considered an advantage.

Funding and conditions: this is a fully funded PhD position with a 36-month contract (extendable up to 48 months if needed), full-time at 40 hours per week. The annual gross salary is approximately EUR 43,445 before taxes. Start date is mid-2026.
