The University of Bern in Switzerland is offering a fully funded PhD position in Climate Sciences, with a focus on Paleoclimatology and Data Science. The project, Pixel2Paleo, investigates lake sediments as natural archives of Earth’s climate history, utilizing advanced imaging technologies (μXRF, MSI, HSI), machine learning, and environmental data analysis to reconstruct past climate patterns. The research involves fieldwork across Swiss lakes, laboratory experiments, and the development of a publicly accessible climate–sediment database. The successful candidate will join the Institute of Geological Sciences and the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research, working in a supportive, interdisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and international collaborations.
