About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunity in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Studies) at Technological University Dublin within the STREAM project, funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

The project focuses on sustainable smart energy solutions for maritime ports, supporting decarbonisation and on-shore power supply (OPS) for ports in Ireland. Research topics include renewable and hybrid power systems, smart grids and microgrids, energy storage, advanced control for port electrification, real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation, and machine learning for energy management and optimisation.

Funding: fully funded for 48 months, with a stipend of €25,000 per year, fees covered up to €6,000 per year, and a €3,000 per year materials and travel budget.

Eligibility: applicants should hold a BE and ME (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Power Engineering, or a closely related discipline. First-class honours (or equivalent) in both degrees is highly recommended. Strong analytical skills, good conduct, teamwork, excellent English communication, and experience with power systems, renewable energy, control, simulation tools, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, OpenDSS, or OPAL-RT/RTDS/HIL platforms are preferred.
