Description

The LEIA Lab at the University of Florida is seeking a fully funded PhD student to join an interdisciplinary team focused on landscape ecology, artificial intelligence, and food systems. The research will address how environmental change impacts ecological resilience and human well-being, with potential projects in mapping food access, modeling socio-ecological systems, integrating remote sensing and AI-driven informatics, and developing decision-support tools for conservation and sustainability. The lab is part of UF’s Department of Wildlife Ecology & Conservation and collaborates closely with AI and informatics infrastructure at the university. The ideal candidate will have an M.S. in a relevant field, strong skills in GIS, remote sensing, spatial/landscape ecology, and programming (R, Python), and excellent communication abilities. Experience with socio-ecological fieldwork, stakeholder engagement, or machine learning is a plus. The position offers full tuition, stipend, and benefits for 4–5 years. Applications are accepted for Spring or Fall 2026 start dates and will be reviewed until the position is filled. To apply, send a single PDF with your CV, research statement, references, and recommendation letters to Dr. Ho Yi Wan. For more information about the lab, visit hoyiwan.com.
