Oakland University is recruiting 1 fully funded PhD student in Software Engineering and Software Security for a research group led by Yu Nong (joining as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2026).

The project areas include vulnerability detection and repair, vulnerability data generation, program analysis, LLM-based vulnerability analysis, empirical software engineering, and emerging topics such as LLM agent security and AI for security. The group has publications in venues such as ICSE, FSE, USENIX Security, IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy, TSE, and TOSEM.

This is a fully funded PhD with stipend + tuition coverage for the entire program, with stable support under normal academic progress. Preferred start is Fall 2026, and Spring 2027 may also be negotiable.

Ideal applicants have a BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field, strong research motivation, solid coding/experimentation/systems/data analysis skills, and a clear interest in software security, program analysis, or AI for software engineering. Applicants with a Master’s degree may reduce coursework requirements and finish earlier. A GRE waiver may be available depending on qualifications.
