About this position

Open PhD position at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPIP), Germany.

The research group of Ali Esfandiar, Group Leader in the Molecular Spectroscopy Department, is recruiting a highly motivated PhD student for a fully funded project on solid–liquid interfaces. The project investigates novel physical phenomena at the nanoscale using advanced experimental techniques and optical approaches.

Research areas and keywords: Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), optics, photonics, spectroscopy, time-resolved measurements, interfacial science, nanoscale phenomena.

What the project offers: access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, including AFM and optical setups; interdisciplinary research spanning physics, chemistry, and materials science; and work in an international, collaborative institute.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related field. A strong background in AFM is expected, and experience or strong interest in optical methods, optics, photonics, spectroscopy, or time-resolved measurements is highly desirable. The post also emphasizes curiosity for interfacial science, the ability to work independently, and motivation for experimental research.

How to apply: interested candidates should send a CV and a brief motivation letter to [email protected].

Location: MPIP (Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research), Germany.
