The Robotics and Remote Sensing Lab (RRSL) in the Department of Applied Computing and the Department of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology at Michigan Technological University is seeking applications for a Teaching Assistant PhD position starting in Fall 2026.

The research focus is on industrial digital twins, with related work in robotics, remote sensing, physics-based modeling, simulation, Python programming, sensor integration, IoT systems, CAD modeling, and ROS 2. The student should be able to model the behavior of physical systems and create and test what-if scenarios.

Preferred background includes a master's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Additional strengths include experience with digital twins or virtual modeling, physics-based modeling, IoT and sensor systems, edge devices such as Raspberry Pi/Arduino, real-time data acquisition, Unity or NVIDIA Isaac, CAD, machine learning teaching experience, published research, and strong Python skills.
