About this position
PhD position in electrocatalysis at Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien), Institute of Applied Physics, Vienna, Austria.
The Pichler Lab is advertising a fully funded PhD opening starting from June/July 2026 (summer 2026). The project is in electrocatalysis and aims to optimize catalytic processes that convert waste substrates (solid and gaseous) into chemical intermediates. The research combines surface science, electrochemistry, and spectroscopic/materials analysis to establish structure–performance relationships for catalysts.
Typical work includes electrocatalytic experiments and electrochemical diagnostics (e.g., CV, impedance), plus analysis of catalytic materials using high-vacuum techniques such as XPS and LEIS or spectroscopy such as Raman and IR. Experience in electrocatalysis and surface science is required; Raman spectroscopy (including in situ spectroscopy) and high-vacuum methods are advantageous.
Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in physics or chemistry, strong motivation, and ambition toward scientific excellence. The position is a 3-year contract with a salary of 2700€/month.
How to apply: send your CV and a short motivation letter to [email protected]. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
Funding details
