Utrecht University is offering a fully funded PhD position in the Department of Earth Sciences, focusing on experimental research into turbidity currents and their deposits using the state-of-the-art TurbiFlume facility. The project aims to advance understanding of sediment gravity flows, their structure, behaviour, and depositional patterns, with a particular emphasis on submarine canyons and their role in transporting sediments, carbon, nutrients, and pollutants to the deep ocean. The research will involve novel laboratory experiments, high-resolution measurements, and data analysis, contributing to the broader fields of geoscience, marine geology, and environmental science.

The position is open to applicants with an MSc in Earth Sciences, Civil or Hydraulic Engineering, or related disciplines.
