Fully funded PhD positions are open in Data Science through the HEIBRiDS program at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, Germany. The call is for motivated candidates interested in interdisciplinary research that combines data science methods with applications in molecular medicine, materials & energy, earth & environment, geosciences, and astronomy.

Research topics mentioned in the call include machine learning, deep learning, explainable AI, large language models, mathematical modelling, statistical modelling, and imaging data science. Projects are carried out at partner Helmholtz centers in the Berlin area, including the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB), and the Max Delbrück Center (MDC), in collaboration with partner universities such as Charité, Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Technische Universität Berlin.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a strong interest in data science and hold a Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, engineering, physics, statistics, or mathematics, or in related applied fields such as bioinformatics or geoinformatics. Candidates must have completed their MSc already or finish it by January 2027 at the latest. If you have a foreign degree, you must provide proof of recognition in Germany.

Funding: the positions are fully funded and paid according to TVöD-Bund, up to E13 depending on personal requirements. The appointment is initially for 3 years with the possibility of extension. Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
