About this position

The International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Organ Biology (IMPRS-MOB) invites applications for fully funded PhD positions starting in October 2026. This prestigious graduate program is based in the dynamic Rhine-Main region of Germany, connecting three leading scientific institutions: the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim, Justus Liebig University in Gießen, and Goethe University Frankfurt. IMPRS-MOB offers a vibrant, international, and multidisciplinary environment where students explore the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the physiology and pathology of organ systems.

PhD candidates will engage in a comprehensive three-year program that includes lectures, specialized seminars, methods courses, and retreats. The program is designed to foster scientific excellence and personal development, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and abundant resources across the participating institutions. Research projects are available in diverse fields such as genetics, development, regeneration, stem cell biology, cancer, and cardiopulmonary research, allowing students to tailor their doctoral studies to their interests.

Successful applicants will benefit from a fully funded position, which covers tuition and provides a competitive stipend. The program is conducted in English, ensuring accessibility for international students. Each student receives guidance and mentorship from an individual Thesis Advisory Committee, supporting their academic and professional growth. IMPRS-MOB is committed to creating a friendly, inclusive, and stimulating environment that prepares graduates for successful careers in academia and beyond.

Applicants should have a strong background in biological sciences, biochemistry, medicine, pharmacy, or related disciplines. While it is not necessary to hold the final degree at the time of application, candidates must obtain an excellent MSc or equivalent degree by October 2026. The application deadline is 31 January 2026, and all applications must be submitted through the online portal. Accepted candidates will join a diverse cohort of talented scientists and begin their doctoral studies no later than October 2026.
