Fully Funded PhD Positions in Provable Algorithms for Structured Inference at HKUST (Guangzhou) Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) in China

IEEE Information Theory Society shares a call for fully funded PhD positions in Provable Algorithms for Structured Inference at Yuwen Huang's group at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou).

The research focus spans information theory, quantum information processing, and modern AI, with specific topics including belief propagation, factor graphs, Bethe and Sinkhorn approximations, matrix permanent, variational inference on complex-valued factor graphs, distributed quantum optimization, tensor network methods, and rigorous analysis of AI algorithms.

Applicants with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, information theory, computer science, electronic engineering, or statistical physics are encouraged to apply. Strong mathematical foundations and programming experience are expected. English is the language of instruction.

The positions are open for Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Fall 2027. Funding is fully covered, with a duration of three years for students with a research master's degree or four years otherwise, and a monthly stipend of approximately RMB 15,000.
